Jeffery Deaver is a prolific author with several outstanding series characters. His website describes the wide range of his writing.
I agree with Deaver’s characterization that Lincoln is an improbable hero, and despite being Deaver’s most popular character, I’ve never gained much momentum from the Lincoln Rhyme series. The Cutting Edge is the latest in the Lincoln Rhyme series, although it was published more than 3 years ago, but Deaver’s description of his character and what drives those novels is interesting as described here.
The next book in the series, The Midnight Line, (#15) , is due in November, 2021.
In the meantime, Deaver has been developing a new character.
I have been enjoying his newer Colter Shaw series. His latest novel, The Final Twist (#3) in the series came out in May, 2021. Shaw, who debuted in The Never Game in May, 2019, is another unique character.
Shaw is singularly focused as a “reward seeker”, traveling the country to help the authorities solve crimes, but mostly to help private citizens locate missing persons and recover money. Shaw is the son of a survivalist family and an expert tracker, ornery but likable in strange way.
I’ve read the first book and have The Goodbye Man and The Final Twist on the bookshelf.
