More Food for Thought ….

And you tell ME to exercise? I don’t think so.

I’m really enjoying the Ken Burns documentary series on PBS, Muhammad Ali. It’s subtitled, Bigger than Boxing. Larger than Life, which seems appropriate to his unlikely but incredible journey. It is also a microcosm of race relations throughout his life. I think you’ll be surprised by Ali’s attitude and approach to life.

My father was an professional boxer, won the Michigan Golden Gloves tournament twice and was always a big fan of the sport, so growing up, we spent every Friday night watching the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports (which was all boxing.) The man with the fastest hands ever was always a big favorite.

For my lawyer friends, here’s a new one I hadn’t heard before. (Probably could substitute a few other professional services as well, too, huh?)

There was a lawyer who died and got to the pearly gates.

Not fair, he said. I’m only forty-five.”

St. Peter said “No, we got a new system. Now we do it by billable hours. According to our records you’re 153.”

In case you’re in that minuscule minority that thinks the days of Exkalibur are dead, watch this video about the return of jousting and the celebration of this medieval rite.

If you’re an iPhone user and have downloaded the new operating system, iOS 15, you may be frustrated by Apple’s decision to put the Safari search bar at the bottom of the page instead of the top where it has always been.

It’s actually quite functional there, easy thumb access and allows you to easily swipe between tabs, but if you liked it the old way with the search bar at the top, do this:

  1. Go to Settings>Safari
  2. Look for Safari>Tabs where you’ll see two choices. The “Tab Bar” choice on the left keeps the search bar at the bottom. If you switch to the “Single Tab” on the right, it will return to its familiar place at the top of the Safari window.

Why are people quitting their jobs?

This is an interesting article which I think hits on some of the key issues facing the workforce of the future … and today.

The article is behind Fortune Magazine’s paywall for its subscribers. Otherwise, I have it for you here: The real reason everyone is quitting their jobs.pdf.

You’ll also find some thoughtful ideas about how to overcome these challenges and implement changes so your employees become more “embedded” in your company and culture.

You may be unaware of my love for novels in the Mystery-Thriller-Suspense genre. I’ve read over 2,000 books in this genre over many decades … no exaggeration … and am always happy to suggest a new series to mystery aficionados. I usually add something every week or so to the Mystery-Thriller-Suspense page on the Exkalibur website, so I hope you’ll be able to find something you like.

If not, feel free to reach out. Whether you’re looking for great stories, great characters or great writing, I’ll be happy to be your guide and offer some suggestions worth trying.
