I have frequently cited the weekly Corner Office series that appears in the Sunday NY Times. This week’s interview is with Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs.
In his interview, he emphasizes the critical importance of communicating regularly with employees. While this might get more emphasis during challenging times like these, he validates the notion that employees do NOT understand all that’s going on and what they may hear may be unreliable. There’s no substitute for regular communication – and he sent a daily voicemail to his entire organization.
He also emphasizes the “spotlight of leadership”, illustrating with several examples how even the smallest things done by CEOs may be remembered forever and establish the tone of their leadership.
